What To Include in the Advert Text

You can type your advert straight into the box, but it is a good idea to first type out your advert in a word processing program such as MS Word. This gives you a copy of your advert & a chance to read back your advert, check your spelling and grammar, all of which can make your advert so much more appealing to potential buyers. There is no need to format the text i.e use different fonts & colours, this will not be used in the advert.

Please don’t type in upper case, this is considered as shouting & makes an advert very difficult to read.

Please describe the animal or item that you are trying to sell honestly and include as much detail as you can including sex, size, age, breeding, colour, temperament, experience, build, vices, problems, etc.

You can use a maximum 600 words and obviously good photos really can make all the difference, so try to include at least one if you can. If you have any problems with the photos, we can normally sort them out for you.

The search facilities will search for matching words in your advert title or text, so to give your advert the best possible chance ensure that keywords are included & spelt correctly. For example, if you are advertising a thoroughbred don’t just put TB, but include thoroughbred in your advert. Include other words that are appropriate & may be searched for, i.e. dressage, show jumping. After you advert has been approved, try searching for it & modify it if necessary to improve the search performance.

Remember to include the price, if no price is given it will be assumed to be at least £175 this will make your advert subject to payment and your advert will not be approved until payment has been received. If you are advertising a horse & wish to show the asking price, please put the actual price & not a cryptic clue such as high four figures or so many carrots. This is not Facebook & including a price is fine.

Include any specific contact details, i.e phone after 9pm, no texts, no emails etc. There is no need to include your Email address, but you can include a phone number if you have decided not to show your name & number at the top of the advert.

Any website URLs will be automatically changed to links. This is ideal for including videos, photo galleries or the pedigree, but should not be used for commercial advertising.
