Very sad sale of my 16.2 7 year old warmblood gelding, sadly he’s too much for me as I don’t have the time to commit to such a horse.
I have had him since he was a yearling but due having two children along the way he hasn’t had the time and consistency put into him. Now he is a big bold boy. I’d say he’s suited to a competitive home.
He has lovely breeding (showjumping lines) and has bags of talent, loves to jump and enjoys working.
He has three nice paces and works nicely on the flat.
Good with the farrier, good to clip and generally handle but can be a handful to lead in and out ( I believe this will settle with more work)
The reason why he is a project is he just isn’t doing enough to occupy his brain resulting in some quirks.
To hack he is good in company can have the odd spook but nothing drastic. To hack alone he can rear spin and bounce about.he’s not phased by traffic/tractors ect.
He travels well but can be a challenge to load. But again with more time on this he will get better.
He has previously been to arena hires. Hunter trials and camps. Where he’s done dressage sj and xc.

Maverick is a lovely TB who was unfortunately mis sold to me as a novice safe first horse. He is absolutely not suitable for a novice or nervous rider. He needs a confident, experienced handler, ideally someone familiar with ex-racehorse, who can give him consistency, time, and clear direction.

Positives:

Easy to catch

3 lovely paces, even with a novice on board

Great under saddle with an experienced rider

Competed in dressage with his previous owner

Takes confidence from his rider and improves with a capable hand

Points to note:

He is sharp and can be spooky (this has been exaggerated by my own loss of confidence, which he picks up on)

Doesn’t like to be away from the herd

Loading needs work. He has had a bad experience in a lorry which has completely knocked his confidence.

Would suit a confident, experienced rider looking for a project horse

Maverick will need alot of work on the ground as he can be tense and he will need time to settle.

This is a very hard sale for me. I feel like I’ve let him down, but I don’t want to keep him in the wrong home. For that reason, homes will be vetted and he will only go to the right person who understands what he needs, so that he isn’t passed on again. His new home would need to be a calm and very understanding one.

3 nice paces and working sweetly on the flat. He is bold and genuine to a fence having jumped around a course of 80/85cm with the potential for more once more established. Has been to numerous arena hires.

Been xc schooling taking everything in his stride, popping ditches, drops and water. Has been in training previously which makes him ROR eligible. Hacks alone or in company and not phased by traffic. Sensible in open spaces and not a type that needs riding daily.
