NFED Help & Frequently Asked Questions

What is the NFED?

The NFED was launched way back in the last century as an equestrian information resource for the New Forest and surrounding area. The goal hasn’t changed, but the area covered has grown greatly as the word has spread.
NFED, or N-FED as many call it is short for New Forest Equine Directory.

There are no employees, just a husband and wife team (Click Here). The site is hosted by UK2 in London on a dedicated server but run entirely from our New Forest home, which is why we do not have office hours and the site can be updated 365 days a year. Although more expensive than shared hosting, having a dedicated server does ensure a fast reliable service which is unaffected by other websites and provides us with 24 hour support when a problem arises.

The NFED is a small business, so has to pay its way to survive but is one of the very few sites that does not use third party advertising to fund or boost profits. We have a few sponsors and do charge for some classifieds adverts and business listings to keep the site viable, but deliberately keep charges as low as possible to keep the business small and below the VAT threshold. We are not trying to build an empire, just provide a great service to like-minded people so don’t let the low prices fool you, there are many thousands of regular NFED users all across the country.

There are four main sections:

1: Classifieds
Our unique classified system has been adapted and grown over the years to satisfy our needs. It is very fast, reliable and kept as simple as possible, whilst still providing the features that people expect. All ads are categorised and in date order. To maximise exposure, they can be viewed by anyone, so there is no need to join or open an account to advertise, view or contact an advertiser. Safety is paramount; advertiser details are hidden by default and enquiries sent through the system are private, but monitored for suspicious activity. Paid or free ads can all have up to four photos, suitable paid ads will also be featured. For security reasons, maps are not used on the classifieds only the nearest town and county are shown.

2: Service Directory
The Service Directory is the place to find or advertise an equestrian or countryside business or service. The original “D” in NFED, although the entire directory system was replaced in 2015. Services can be found by category, location, name or search, they can be ordered by date or alphabetically, forward or reverse, it really is a fully featured directory. We do charge a nominal fee to be listed, but this ensures that the directory is kept up to date. We have learnt that offering a free directory just encourages false or outdated entries, which devalues the entire system. The directory also has a business news section for the use of our advertisers.

3: Event Diary
Like the Directory, this was replaced in 2015 with a brand new system which includes an event map. This allows events to be seen on a standard calendar, monthly view, forthcoming events or events in any area on a map. You can use the filters to only show the type of event that you are interested in or search for an event. Schedules can be downloaded and links are added to the event details of any venues or instructors that have a listing in the services directory. All open events can be posted completely free of charge, there is just a small charge for commercial events for those not listed in the services directory.

4: Information Exchange
Several news pages that are either updated with news from around the area or our business advertisers. We also have Racing and World Equine news pages that update automatically from various trusted sources.
