Why Have I Been Charged for a Free Ad?

As clearly explained in the Rules & Guidelines which must be read & accepted before an advert can be submitted; All ads go through the same system, so the payment option will always appear on the final submission page (Stage 3).

If the advert qualifies as a free ad, you simply ignore the payment section unless you wish to feature the ad.

Free Adverts
Low value ads up to £174.99 (excluding horses or ponies) may be approved without payment, providing that they qualify, and entirely at the administrator’s discretion. If there is any doubt, the advert will not be approved without payment.

The Payment Button will show on all adverts.

If your advert qualifies as a free advert and you do not wish to feature the advert, you can ignore the payment section at Stage 3. The advert will be reviewed and providing it qualifies, will be approved on the next update.

You can upgrade and feature a free ad by paying for the advert.

A further notice is on the final submission page directly above the payment section.

Free Ads
If you have posted a free advert, you have finished. Please ignore the payment section unless you wish to feature the advert. Providing your advert qualifies as a free advert, it will be approved on the next update.

If you have missed all of the above messages & paid in error, please contact us quickly. We may be able to cancel & refund providing the order has not yet been processed. Any charges incurred from the payment processing company will be deducted from the refund. Paypal charges £0.56p on an £8.99 payment, refund will be £8.43

If you pay for a free advert to be featured & the order has been processed, a refund will not be possible as we will have been charged.

Isn’t this Complicated?
It may seem complicated but to remove the payment section for free ads would mean setting up a completely separate classified section. Obviously this would have to be funded either by third party advertising which we do not use, or by charging for the ads & we really do want to be able to offer free ads!

Although not perfect, the current system does work very well & has done for many years but does rely on advertisers actually reading the Rules & Guidelines. It would be far easier to remove the free ads & charge the same for all ads, but this would be unfair on those that take the time to read the instructions & use the site as intended.

If you appreciate the NFED and the work that goes into the running of such a site, you are welcome to refuse the free offer and pay for the advert. In return, suitable adverts will be featured.
